Nextcloud’s summer Hub release is out. Hub 26 Summer shipped on September 16 as Server 35.0.0, with downloads and checksums on the changelog page. The Enterprise build is still going through certification, and Nextcloud says AIO users will get an upgrade button in the AIO interface.
Office on the desktop
Nextcloud Office is now powered by Euro-Office, and it has a desktop client for the first time: Windows x64 and arm64, Linux x64 and arm64, macOS arm64. You edit locally with your own fonts and settings, then save back to the server or your machine. Others can join the editing session from their own desktop client or from a browser. The desktop editors download in the coming weeks, so this is announced rather than available today.
Teams get a workspace
Teams used to live in Nextcloud Contacts. Now every team gets a workspace inside Hub: its own page and storage, with resources wired into the other apps. Team ownership starts with Collectives and Deck boards, so a board belongs to the team and not to the person who made it. Admins can set a storage quota for new teams; the team management settings land in the next minor release. Talk adds Classified conversations, with no public links or guests and messages that expire by default, plus read-only channels and announcements. File shares can require a one-time password, and Text gets inline comments and footnotes.
Photos, redesigned
Photos gets a new interface: a flexible grid with a density toggle, map browsing, Trip Memories, a slideshow and a year recap. You can fix a wrong date or location without modifying the original file, and videos can be transcoded for smoother playback in the browser. The mobile apps get albums, built by a team from Deutsche Telekom for their MagentaCloud product.
Before you upgrade
Hub 25 Autumn (32.x) reached end of life in September, so it no longer gets bug fixes or security updates. Hub 26 Winter is on 33.0.9 and Hub 26 Spring on 34.0.4.
My read
The desktop Office client is the part to test first, and it isn’t out yet. If you’re on 32.x, you’re running an unsupported server.
